This is a fun, social motorcycle breakfast run by Carbon Cover motorcycle insurance brokers with support from the Rotary Club of Hartbeespoort-Brits. It’s a run with a difference that not only incorporates a scenic 126km motorcycle ride along the beautiful Magaliesberg Mountain Range but concludes at an airfield. An airfield that, for this day only, will be open for motorcycles to ride on.
Airspan Airfield is a family-run top-notch facility near Rustenburg with a restaurant and bar in its hanger that can seat up to 400 people. They will serve coffee, drinks and a buffet breakfast upon the group’s arrival.
After breakfast, they will open up the 1.1km runway to motorcycles to have some fun on. The cost for people wishing to have a go on the runway is R100, and riders may have as many goes as time allows. To see the runway in action with a Kawasaki H2R, look here: https://youtu.be/gMjEebjHMA4
Carbon Cover is a new insurance broker specialising in motorcycles. It is run by Terry Terblanche who has been in both the motorcycle and insurance industry for most of his life and has thus gained huge experience in both. Terry, and staff from the Bikeshop branches, will be present on the run to chat, answer questions and help make sure everyone is happy.
This run will also help raise funds for the Rotary Club, a global organisation aiming to help humanity and whose latest boast include being fundamental in eradicating Polio from developing countries. The local Hartbeespoort-Brits has assisted many under-funded schools with such basic facilities as toilets and plumbing, plus has given hugely to local animal welfare societies. Rotary Club members will be on hand at Airspan to help organise the runway rides.
Part of the price for the buffet breakfast (R120) will go towards Rotary plus the R100 to play on the airfield also goes towards Rotary. Bikeshop Rivonia was good enough to donate a helmet to the run that the Rotary Club will raffle out on the day.
This is a social motorcycle ride open to all motorcycle riders of all experience levels and preferred riding paces.
Also on 17 November is the 94.7 Cycle Tour however the road closures do NOT affect the JHB ring road, especially the N3 Rivonia turn-off If you stick to the main freeway then you will be fine. To check, here are the road closures: https://www.ridejoburg.co.za/documents/Road_Closure_Map_2024.pdf
See everyone at Bikeshop Rivonia on Sunday 17 November.
