HJC is a South Korean firm that started making riot and safety helmets back in 1971. They’re known for producing good value helmets that often offer some pretty innovative features.
More recently, HJCs focus has been on producing advanced, multi-layer crash helmet shells from multi-layer composites such as Aramid (Kevlar), carbon fibre and fibreglass. Think the RPHA range.
Nowadays, HJC manufacture their helmets in Korea, Vietnam and China. Locally, the HJC brand is imported and distributed by PBA.
When HJC first revealed the V10, we thought they nailed the design. It takes cues from other classic-style auto racing helmets – think Simpson, Jebbs, Bell, Arai.
The result is a helmet that is pretty distinct.
We like the shape, the interesting venting, the old school stitched upholstery interior…
The V10 is constructed with a lightweight fiberglass shell that provides strength and stiffness and helps keep weight down. The HJC V10 comes in three different shell sizes, with X-Small and Small sharing a shell and EPS liner, as do Medium and Large; and XL and 2XL. This means that the fit will be better.
Designed with a vintage vibe in mind, the V10 is packed with modern features. Like the reassuringly thick, easy-to-change visor that comes with a pinlock posts and a pinlock insert in the box. Shield changes are quick and easy, thanks to a metal flip-out thumb-screw tab that folds flat when not in use.
The helmet gets two brow vents and those unique 6 chin vents. Looks cool!
Full front-to-back airflow flushes heat and humidity up and out, but interestingly, there are no exhaust vents. It’s compatible with a V10-specific Bluetooth communication device, made by Sena. That boppa’s directly into a receptacle in the back of the helmet. Other universal helmet comm systems can be used too, and the helmet comes with cutouts for speakers.
Safety wise, this lid meets all EU ratings and it is a DOT rated street helmet.
If a lid like this blows your hair back and you’re looking for an affordable, good looking, well appointed helmet, the V10 is worth a look.
