Honda ICE Concept

Honda’s new ICE Concept, the 75° V3 engine with electric supercharger.

Honda is really pushing the development of internal combustion engines as they unveiled their ICE Concept at EICMA. It’s a a liquid-cooled 75° V3 motor with an electric compressor.

The ICE Concept is set to power Honda’s new medium-high displacement bikes and “Will be in pr4oduction in the near future”. The application of the electric supercharger is a first of its kind in a motorcycle engine.

The electric supercharger will have the ability to control intake air pressure independently of engine speed resulting in high torque delivery from low rpm.

This configuration has no need for an intercooler. This all gives the ICE Concept extremely compact dimensions in both transversely and longitudinally. This gives designers the freedom to position all components in the limited space of a bike and allowing for centralization of mass.

No, the V3 engine is not new to Honda, the forerunner of this project is the legendary 1980s NS400R 2-Stroke.
