MSA Short Circuit GP Round 2 – Redstar Raceway

Round 2 of the MSA Short Circuit GP rolled into Redstar Raceway, where riders of all ages brought the heat and delivered a day packed with proper, hard-fought racing.

Heat 1

#18 Hunter Dreyer nailed the start and wasted no time hitting the front. Once there, he built a comfortable gap to take the win. #277 Dalmain van Rooyen secured 2nd, with #80 Byron Stephens in 3rd.

Heat 2

Dreyer repeated the script with another strong launch, quickly pulling clear. Van Rooyen looked competitive before a technical issue forced him out. Dreyer remained in control to take the overall, while Stephens claimed 2nd and #43 Rudolph Uys 3rd.

Heat 1.

Easily the race of the day. Seven riders were covered by less than 0.7 seconds in qualifying, and it showed, this turned into a relentless seven-way fight. The lead changed constantly, with four riders charging to the line. #41 Jason van Breda took the win, just ahead of #40 Lorenzo de Ponte. #13 Ryan van Nieuwkerk followed in 3rd, with #22 Cayden Robert close behind in 4th.

Heat 2.

The action continued into heat 2 as the riders gave no quarter. The lead changed a few times as the laps fell one by one. Van Breda and Van Nieuwkerk came down the final straight side by side with Van Nieuwkerk snatching the win Van Breda followed 0.8sec later in 2nd and Kayden Robert took 3rd place.

Heat 1.

The SAMRA youngsters didn’t hold back. #17 Liam Bronkhorst led early, with #74 Zian Andalaft applying pressure throughout. After a few close moments, Bronkhorst held firm for the win, Andalaft 2nd, and #28 Tyler Purificati 3rd.

Heat 2.

Purificati came through the field with purpose, picking off riders before taking the lead. From there, she controlled the race to secure the win. Bronkhorst followed in 2nd, with #33 Keerthan Govender in 3rd.

Family Fitness Junior Supermoto.

Heat 1.

#26 Ethan de Freitas and #550 Marnitz Otten led the early charge, but De Freitas edged clear in the closing laps to take the win. Otten finished 2nd, with #27 Kiros Taliotes in 3rd.

Heat 2.

De Freitas grabbed the holeshot again, but Otten responded with a decisive move for the lead. It came down to the final lap, where De Freitas struck back to reclaim the position and secure the win. Otten took 2nd, Taliotes 3rd.

Round 2 delivered exactly what you’d expect, tight racing, bold moves, and no shortage of action. Wouldn’t it be great if the two short series organisations could  put differences one side and combine to get some proper race numbers? Just – for the good of the sport…
