Our Deon vdl has been covering the SA Short Circuit Series for around five years. He’s watched most of these kids grow from Sprockets into fully blown big bore engines. Some new riders are being given a shot in October to see whether they will be joining SA’s Ruche Moodley in the prestigious series. How cool is that!
Ruche Moodley keeps his seat.
The 16-year-old racer from South Africa joined the Red Bull Rookies Cup in 2022. In 2022 his best result was 10th place and he finished the year in 19th overall with 31 points to his name.
He was once again selected to rejoin the Rookies Cup for 2023. This year he made quite the impression in the squad as he had a great year that saw him on the podium in 3rd place for the Le Mans race 1.
To make his podium spot even better, he was joined by hero and fellow South African rider Brad Binder to celebrate his great race result.
With some impressive consistent results Moodley finished the season in the top 10 as he walked away with 9th overall. This result by the young S.A rider did not go unnoticed by the Red Bull Rookies Cup as he secured his seat for the 2024 season.
We are constantly amazed at the talent that comes out of a small country like South Africa.
More South African Riders to get a shot.
Every year more than a hundred kids from all over the world get chosen for the Red Bull Rookies Selection Event.
This year, we have five South Africans off to compete in the event to see if they have what it takes to join Ruche for the 2024 season.
The riders are: Ryan van Nieuwkerk, Cayden Robert, KJ Mononjane, Diego de Ponte and Oratilwe Phiri.
All these youngsters are well known in the local racing scene, all have different racing styles and all are completely fearless.
Trials will be taking place in Spain from 1-3 October 2023.
