Round 1 of the ZX-10 Masters Cup

Killarney International Raceway played host to Round 1 of the ZX-10 Masters Cup this past weekend. A total of 17 bikes were entered, with reigning champion Clinton Seller was deemed unfit to race.

Race 1.

The riders took their places on the grid, with #88 Damion Purificati securing pole position alongside #42 Jason Lamb and #4 Hein McMahon on the front row.

As the lights went out, the field roared off the line. Purificati grabbed the holeshot, with Lamb tucked in right behind him. After a few laps, Purificati managed to build a small gap at the front.

Further back, a three-way battle for fourth place unfolded between #469 Adriaan van Dalen, #67 James Barson and #31 Keith Agliotti.

At the chequered flag it was Purificati who took the win, with Lamb crossing the line in 2nd, #60 Trevor Westman secured 3rd place. Van Dalen narrowly claimed fourth, with Barson and Agliotti crossing the line just 0.16 seconds later.

Race 2.

The final race of the day got off to a flying start, with Purificati once again leading the pack under constant pressure from Lamb. Westman remained close behind, pushing hard to stay in contention.

On lap six, however, Van Dalen tucked the front and crashed. Fortunately, he walked away with only a cut to the arm, but it brought an end to his race. The incident triggered a red flag, and the riders regrouped on the grid for a restart.

When the race resumed, Lamb came out fighting. The battle between him and Purificati intensified as the laps ticked down. When the chequered flag finally waved, Lamb snatched the victory by a mere 0.07 seconds. Purificati finished 2nd, with Westman once again claiming 3rd.
