Round 2 of the longest running single model motorcycle racing series took place at Killarney International Raceway this weekend under the National Extreme Festival. With around 25 riders taking to the track there was enough action to keep the spectators wanting more.
The Extreme Festival is one of S.A’s biggest racing events throughout the year. For all us motorcycle enthusiasts out there we can’t get enough of the ZX-10 Masters cup. It’sa day that keeps us entertained watching some of the best riders in the country.
The riders took to the 3.267km track for their qualifying session and it was the King Price Extreme rider Clinton Seller who took pole position. Trevor Westman and AJ Venter filled the front row on the grid for race 1.
Class A:
The Torque class. 35-40 year olds.
Race 1.
Following his outstanding performance in Round 1 #11 Clinton Seller kept his momentum going. He was once again a handful for his fellow riders as he kept his eye on the prize and a twisted wrist on the throttle. This took him over the line in first place, taking the win by 9.825sec. Isle of Man rider #39 AJ Venter had his hands full trying to fend off #60 Trevor Westman, AJ just managed to take 2nd by 0.171sec seeing Westman taking 3rd.
Race 2.
Keeping up his power performance Seller made it clear that he will be a strong contender to walk away as the new ZX-10 Masters Cup Champion for 2024 when he made it a double win for the day and four wins in both rounds thus far. Westman and Venter fought for 2nd place again this time it was #60 Westman claiming 2nd by 0.989sec leaving 3rd place for #39 Venter.

Class B:
Midrange class. 41-50 year olds.
Race 1.
The reigning champ #1 Graeme van Breda had a great run as he gave his new 2024 ZX-10 a proper go. He took the chequered flag by nearly 20 seconds ahead of his closest class rider. #7 Piers Canute rode his way to 2nd place followed by #117 David Veringa in 3rd.
Race 2.
Things started off good for #1 van Breda. He had good pace, but as he came haring at 270 km/h down the straight towards the hair pin at turn six, an unfortunate brake problem sent him spiralling out of control and he took a huge tumble. Luckily he was able to walk away after the crash and says he hopes to be back for Round 3.
This left two riders fighting for first and it was #117 David Veringa who took the win. #7 Piers Canute 2nd and #77 Appanna Ganapathy 3rd.
Overall.
1st #7 Piers Canute
2nd #117 David Veringa
3rd #77 Appanna Ganapathy
(Canute also walked away with 6th overall and Veringa 7th overall.)

The first race was claimed by #44 Johan le Roux by 1.960sec. #42 Jason Lamb is a force to be reckoned with came 2nd and #16 Brian Bontekoning 3rd.
