Advertorial: All About Dunlop Tyres.

Dunlop. A tyre for everywhere…

Back in time. In 1888, John Boyd Dunlop, a Scottish veterinary surgeon living in Ireland discovered the pneumatic tyre principle. Willie Hume created publicity for his discovery by winning seven out of eight cycle races with his pneumatic tyres. The “Pneumatic Tyre and Booth’s Cycle Agency Co. Ltd” was incorporated in 1889 and floated by Harvey du Cros, who was, amongst other things, president of the Irish Cyclists’ Association. That was the beginning of the Dunlop revolution…

Fast Forward to 2024…

Sumitomo rubber is Dunlop and in SA, the brand is distributed by HRP.

Here’s a rundown of what is available on the SA market.

GPR300:  A radial tyre that offers well-balanced sport performance for a variety of sport bikes. The Radial tyre technology helps to provide enhanced grip in wet and dry conditions. Optimized construction to enhance handling and responsiveness for street-going sport riding.

Advanced belt design and Jointless Band (JLB) rear tyre construction utilizes a continuously wound belt for smooth performance and a consistent tyre contact patch.

Aggressive sport-derived tread pattern for enhanced on-bike appearance.

Roadsport 2: A Sport tyre that’s ideal for riders who want performance and value.

Upgraded sport performance from the GPR-300.

More grip and stability under braking than the GPR-300.

Nimble, predictable handling, and quick turn in.

Quick warm-up.

Available in all popular sport bike sizes.

Q3 Plus: Hypersport technology where you need it most.

MT (Multi-Tread) technology in the Q3+ rear tyre uses a silica-infused, long-wearing compound in the centre of the tread for over 20% longer tread life, and special lateral grip compounds on the left and right shoulders for outstanding grip. The Q3+ offers superb grip, stability, and steering feel with faster lap times on the track.

The only hypersport tyre made in the U.S.A, the Q3+ was designed at Dunlop’s Buffalo, NY headquarters, and manufactured in the Buffalo plant on the same high-tech production equipment as Dunlop’s racing tyres. Dunlop’s Carbon Fibre Technology (CFT) employed in the Q3+ uses carbon fibre reinforcement in the tyre sideways for exceptional cornering performance and feel.

Q4 Hypersport: A purpose-built track-day tyre.

The Q4 achieves lean angles up to 62 degrees*, more than any other street-legal tyre Dunlop has ever made.

The user-friendly Q4 does not require tyre warmers, and runs at street pressures, eliminating the need for chassis or electronic adjustments.

Rear tyre compound contains carbon black like Dunlop’s racing slicks for maximum grip.

Jointless Tread (JLT) technology uses a continuously wound strip compound to optimize stability, flex, and grip across the rear tread profile.

Carbon Fibre Technology (CFT) uses carbon fibre reinforcement in the sidewalls for exceptional cornering performance, braking stability and feel.

The Sportmax Q4 is DOT-approved for street-legal use.

Roadsmart RS IV: Dunlops Performance Touring Tyre.

Compared to the Roadsmart III, the RS IV increases mileage by 23 percent in the front and 26 percent in the rear.**

New tread patterns, construction, compounds, and profiles increase ride comfort, grip, and mileage.

New technology allows the RS IV to maintain its high performance throughout its lifespan.

MT Multi-Trea technology in the rear tyre uses a long-wearing compound in the center and special lateral compounds on the shoulders for outstanding grip.

New sidewall construction improves wet and dry handling and comfort.

**Testing performed by Dunlop in Japan on a 2018 Honda CB1300 SB with tire sizes 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear on 40% public roads and 60% highways. Mileage results may vary.

Dunlop tyres are in stock at dealers nationally and are distributed by Henderson Racing Products.
