CFMOTO 300NK: Naked Fun

Who said small bikes can’t be fun? Well, CFMOTO’s little 300NK delivers in bucketloads. The 300NK is a blast from robot to robot, or weaving your way through those pesky four-wheeled vehicles that take up the road.

There is just something about a naked bike that brings a smile to a rider’s face, and the 300NK is no different. Sure, it doesn’t have massive power  or a brute of an engine, but, for commuting or just riding, it doesn’t really need one.

The perky 292cc motor produces 21.4kW and 25.3Nm of torque, getting you off the line rather quickly. With it’s kerb weight of just 151kg, accelerating to 120km/h doesn’t take long at all.

It’s actually bloody good fun racing from light to light.

When the robots disappear and you find yourself on the open road, the 300NK doesn’t disappoint either. It comes with two riding modes, Sport and Eco. Unfortunately, we can’t tell you much about Eco mode because Sport was simply too much fun so we never actually took it out of Sport mode.

We can, however, vouch for the fact that the CFMOTO will get you north of 150km/h.

For a small-capacity machine, that’s quite impressive!

The 300NK boasts good brakes too. Thanks to its light weight, it comes to a halt almost as quickly as it accelerates with good brake feel.

The suspension does a good job. It handles nicely through the bends, stays composed when you start pushing it, and gives the bike a planted feel. Even when you get hard on the brakes, the front end doesn’t dive excessively, keeping the bike stable and predictable when you need to slow in a hurry.

The exhaust is tucked neatly underneath the bike, keeping the 300NK’s styling nice and clean. It’s not overly noisy either, but give the throttle a twist and it produces a lekker little note that suits the bike perfectly.

The 300NK gets LED lighting all round, giving it a modern look while doing the job when the sun disappears. On the electronics front, you get everything you really need, including a seriously cool TFT display, riding modes and all of the important information at your fingertips.

Nothing unnecessarily complicated, just straightforward kit that works.

The exposed frame is one of the 300NK’s coolest features, especially on our test bike with its bright blue finish. It gives the little naked bike plenty of attitude.

The seating position is nice and upright, making the 300NK comfortable both around town and on longer rides. The seat itself is comfy enough to keep you happy when you’re spending a few hours in the saddle, which is a part of what makes this little naked bike so versatile.

The 300NK rolls on 17-inch wheels front and rear, wrapped in road-focused rubber that suits the bike nicely. The combination gives the little CFMOTO a planted feel through the corners and plenty of confidence when you’re chucking it around town or enjoying a twisty stretch of road.

Peter’s Take:

Okay, so as naked bikes go, this is one of my new favourites. It’s punchy, stylish and comes with all the necessary bells and whistles you could want. Then there’s the comfortable riding position, which doesn’t have you sitting completely on top of the bike. Instead, you sit slightly more upright and, as I like to put it, “ride with the bike”.

Its compact size and light weight also make it wonderfully manoeuvrable, especially when threading your way through traffic. Being relatively low to the ground is another bonus for shorties like myself, giving you that little bit of extra confidence when you’re coming to a stop or simply putting a foot down.

Another thing I really like is the range CFMOTO offers. If you eventually get bored with the 300, you can step up to the 450, 675 or 800cc models, giving riders plenty of options as they progress.

All in all, another CFMOTO that is just fun to ride.

The Bottom Line

The CFMOTO 300NK might not have the biggest engine in the naked-bike game, but that really isn’t the point. It’s light, punchy, easy to chuck around and, most importantly, good fun.

Whether you’re zipping between robots or enjoying a stretch of open road, the little 300NK puts a smile on your face.

The bike is seriously well priced, has a quality feel and the added reassurance of a four year, 48000KM warranty. At the end of the day, isn’t that what riding a motorcycle is all about?
