By Donovan Fourie:
We have commented on the recent wave of new motorcycles from China that are now pretty much on par with their Japanese and European rivals, and that was with small and midrange machines. That makes sense. Surely the Chinese are not going to take on the might of Europeans in the furnace that is superbikes?
Guess again – CFMoto, the ever-increasingly famous Chinese motorcycle brand, has pulled the covers off a 90º V-four superbike motor. More so, it’s a motor claiming to be very much up there with the best of them – 209hp at 14,500 and 114Nm of torque at 12,500rpm.
Beyond power claims, CFMoto also says that this motor features a counter-rotating crank (like MotoGP bikes) finger-follower valve trains, secondary top-feed injectors and oval exhaust ports.
The entire motor weighs 61.5kg.
This is just the motor with no motorcycle to go with it just yet but CFMoto has mentioned the hallowed word “racing” and has provided concept images of a somewhat futuristic-looking superbike to accompany it.
This could be good fun.

As a by… Isn’t it great that companies like CFMoto and co are still developing internal combustion engines and not focussing only on electric.
