Just be lekker. That’s the mantra that, most of the people that we know anyway live by. And this small feature proves that there is still much goodness in your fellow South African.
The other day, we picked up a post by one of our friends, the singer and songwriter Garth Taylor. He was standing at the scene of an accident where a pair of guys had been deliberately bumped off their Big Boy 150 Velocity by an impatient driver – allegedly driving a Ford Ranger bakkie…
Garth and William.
In that post he was appealing for any witnesses to come forward with a registration number in order to open a case and take the matter further. William and his uncle, the hapless victims, both sporting nasty grazes were patched up and the wrecked bike was delivered to their home. Garth took down their details.
The bike was a bit of a mess…
When we called Garth, he was rightfully upset and was trying to help the guys. “They are just two blokes who were on the way to the shop when this happened. No apparent reason other than the driver was impatient! What can we do to help them?”
The first thing we could do was to share his post – and a witness came forward with a registration number. A Case has been opened at the local police station – and we’ll keep an eye on any progress there.
The guys at Big Boy lending a helping hand.
The guys from Big Boy who are one of the giants in the small bike market also saw our post and asked if we could bring the bike to them, which we did. In the interim, the team from Autocycle centre, importers of MT helmets and all sorts also saw our post and asked if they could assist. It turns out that the riders helmets were literally destroyed during the crash – luckily they were wearing helmets at all.
A week later, we were asked to please come and collect the bike. We went and picked up William (Who luckily, other than some nasty scars is actually OK) and took him to the workshop where, what looked like a brand new bike was wheeled up the hill and handed to him.
The guys had replaced clocks, yokes and bodywork and really given the bike a proper going over.
