Round 5. Vereeniging.

Photos and Words by: Deon vdl Photography.

For Round 5 of the SASCS we made our way to VKC to catch the action. It was a great day of racing throughout all the classes, especially from the kids on the PW50’s who had everyone on the side of the track cheering them on.

We reckon that this was the best raceday of the year, so far.

SASCS
Thabang, Aston & Robert off the line.

SM Junior 65 & 85cc.

Jessica Oosthuizen was the only rider on an 85cc. It was also her first race on a bigger bike. She rode well and had a big crash in heat 3 but she is all good and we will see her racing again in the next round.

65cc.

Heat 1.

From the get go the youngsters were out in full force as they stormed turn one. #11x Luca Bergover took the lead with #22 Blake Robert trying to chase him down. Bergover kept his head in the game and made it to the line in 1st place, Robert took 2nd place and #711 Tristan Swart won the battle for the 3rd spot.

Heat 2.

Swart had a great start and grabbed the holeshot, with three riders pursuing him. He stayed in front for most of the race when he lost the lead to Robert. In the battle for second, #26 Ethan de Freitas went down and was out for the rest of the race. Swart pushed hard to catch up to Robert, but Robert clinched the win with Swart in a close 2nd with Bergover taking 3rd.

Heat 3.

Another good start saw Swart leading the charge, Robert and Bergover followed very closely and stayed there for the whole race. Swart managed to cross the line in 1st with Robert right next to him –  a photo finish with Bergover not far behind in 3rd place.

Heat 1.

The kids quickly went battle mode, with three of the riders all gunning for the lead. After a few laps #238 Liam Smith nearly went down leaving #4 James Nijmeijer and #17 Liam Bronkhorst to make a break for it.

Nijmeijer took the win with Bronkshorst right behind him in 2nd place. #39 Ajay Venter came in 3rd.

Heat 2.

Nijmeijer and Bronkhorst had a banging start with the fans in an uproar early in the race.

Further back, three riders had some great racing #143 Tsebo Mafokate, #52 Declan Schoeman and Ajay Venter  just added to the excitement. Nijmeijer held off Bronkhorst to take the win, Bronkhorst grabbed 2nd and Liam Smith took the third step.

Heat 3.

Coming out of the first corner, Smith was in front. It took a few laps for Nijmeijer to get ahead. With two laps to go, Bronkhorst made his way past Smith and the two of them put on a brilliant display of racing tailing Nijmeijer. Exiting the last corner they were very close… It was Nijmeijer who was victorious, Bronkhorst in 2nd and Smith took 3rd.

Heat 1.

Fans were spoiled with some great racing throughout the pack. #21 Arno Erasmus vs. #77 Mueez Jassat.  #75 Oliver Wilson vs. #34 Matthew Rees and the front runners entertained us all the way to the end.

#41 Jason van Breda came in 1st Place, #22 Cayden Robert claimed 2nd and #99 Adam Naidoo took 3rd.

Heat 2.

Another action packed race kept things interesting from start to finish. Mueez Jassat, Bohlale Mafokate and Erasmus crossed the line within a second of each other during the battle for 4th place.  Van Breda claimed the win, Robert 2nd and Naidoo followed shortly in 3rd.

Heat 3.

The last race held just as much action and kept everyone on their toes. A few laps in, Robert stole the Lead from Van Breda, but Van Breda was not going to make things easy and he remained on his tail. They crossed the line almost side by side as Robert just took the win, Van Breda claimed 2nd and Naidoo took 3rd place.

Heat 1.

#1 Bohlale “Little Man” Mafokate made an early break for the front and kept a neat race line all the way to take a comfortable 1st place. #22 Blake Robert took 2nd place with #45 Amohelang Phiri placed 3rd after battling #5 Keaton de Jager who pushed him all the way until the finish.

Heat 2.

Little Man, still buzzing after his first win took the lead and just ran with it, claimed the win, Robert crossed in 2nd place with Phiri taking the 3rd spot.

Heat 3.

Things were not going to be so easy for Mafokate in the last race.

He did very well until back markers held him up. When he turned to look behind him to see who was on him, Robert passed him on the left. Both riders stormed towards the chequered flag with Robert taking the win, Mafokate took a close 2nd with De Jager grabbing the 3rd spot.

SM Junior 50cc.

Heat 1.

It was a good start from #550 Marnitz Otten who grabbed the holeshot and got chased down. #26 Ethan de Freitas made it to the front and stayed there until he won the race. #27 Kiros Taliotes had a fantastic run and crossed the line in 2nd and with some good riding of his own #11 Zander du Toit took 3rd spot.

Heat 2.

#100 Tanner Oosthuizen was penalised 10 seconds for a jump start. That cost him a top three finish. De Freitas was too much for the pack as he pulled away from his competitors and took 1st place, Taliotes copied his performance to grab 2nd and Du Toit did the same taking 3rd again.

Heat 3.

Taliotes found himself in the lead from the start and stayed there until a few laps in when he lost the front and went sliding into the dirt. Just as quickly as he went down he was back up to carry on racing. De Freitas took full advantage and powered his way to his third win of the day. After losing a couple of positions, Taliotes clawed his way back overtaking one rider after the other. With two riders having jumped the start, Taliotes managed to clinch a well deserved 2nd, but only by a blink of an eye… Oosthuizen was by his side in 3rd place.

Heat 1.

Coming off the line with lighting speed was #63 Thabang Keswa with #1 Aston Nesbitt not letting him get away. Nesbitt pushed hard for the lead and he got it. He held on and took the win followed very shortly by Keswa in 2nd and #30 Ruben Weterman making his way to 3rd after #33 Robert Jacobs was penalised for a jump start.

Heat 2.

This time around it was Nesbitt that made the charge in the lead with Kewsa following. These two riders giving their all from beginning till the end made for very entertaining racing. After the flag came out and the dust settled, it was Keswa who took  the win by 0.184sec.

The battle for 3rd was still raging on, between Jacobs and Weterman with Jacobs just managing to clinch 3rd place.

Heat 3.

Making sure that the last race of the day was the great finale, all the riders made it a race to remember. Keswa was up front until lap four when Nesbitt took the lead – true action from these two riders all the way to the end. Nebitt won with Kewsa by his side to claim 2nd. Jacobs was running in third place all the way to the last lap when misfortune took him on an unpleasant scenic route giving 3rd place to Ruben Weterman.

What a race it was!
