‘22 Harley Ultra Limited Street Glide 114. Paint it black.
The used motorcycle market is pretty vibrant right now, with dealerships like Bikeshop finding bikes all over the place. This month they gave us some ‘Merican muscle to ride.
This wasn’t really something that we’d usually select (we’ll be honest, this one looked easiest to get out of the shop…), not everyone’s cuppa tea, so to speak, but if we all liked the same motorcycles, life would be a pretty boring place. Bikeshop is literally stuffed to the rafters with some really beautiful machines – and their HD section is pretty mind boggling with everything from Sporty’s to beastys like this one up for grabs.
If you follow our pages, you’ll know that we have sampled the later model, so we figured that riding that bikes predecessor might be, well a little bit “Meh.”
Happily we were wrong – if a bike like this floats your boat, the 114 is still quite something.
What is it, you might ask.
Well, it’s Harleys luxury cruiser, and by luxury, we mean luxury. The kind of bike you’ll load to the hilt with all of your luggage, pop your nearest and dearest on the back and head off to chase those horizons.
It all starts as you sink into that luxurious seat that kind of embraces you. Feet on the ground, tickle the starter, snick her into first and away you go.
Need some tunes?
Well the sound system is really quite something – even at speeds in excess of the national speed limit. Speakers are inserted in the fairings and behind the passenger seat to give you all the Trump news as you negotiate the traffic.
ABS, Traction controll, Heated grips Blue tooth connectivity and navigation are all standard fare.
Yes, it’s big. Nobody is going to tell you otherwise, but the bike has a low centre of gravity and a lazy, long stroke engine that is quite happy to get you out to those wide open freeways.
The rider is in a bubble – just look at the faring, even your feet are protected from street muck. Vents in the faring make sure that you don’t overheat.
Stop in for fuel and the attendants swamp you just to have a closer look. Taxi drivers give you a wide berth as they pull aside to check the bike out. When we stopped ro take a few pics, young Deon complained that there was a car in his shot. It was someone who had stopped just to have a look and a chinwag about the bike.
Hit the open road, lock the cruise control and chase the horizon.
She floats you along on a huge glob of torque from idle all the way up to the redline of 5500rpm. Comfortable and easy.
That’s what this bike is about.
This one and a whole family of pre-loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles is on the floor at Bikeshop Rivonia.
