Veteran Racers Deliver A Proper Show At Zwartkops

If anybody still thinks racing gets calmer with age, the ZX-10 Masters Cup field at Zwartkops Raceway proved otherwise. Round 3 delivered elbows-out racing, fearless late-braking moves and battles right through the pack as some of South Africa’s most experienced riders put on an absolute spectacle.

Heat 1.

#88 Damion Purificati secured pole position, with #31 Keith Agliotti and #4 Hein McMahon completing the front row.

When the lights went out, Purificati wasted no time taking control at the front, but behind him the field erupted into battle. One of the standout fights came in the form of a fierce three-way scrap between Keith Agliotti, AD van Dalen and Pieter Delport, with positions changing constantly as the laps ticked by.

Out front, however, Purificati’s race pace proved untouchable as he powered his way to victory. McMahon crossed the line in second, while #67 James Barson finished in third place.

Heat 2.

The final race of the day somehow turned the intensity up even further. Riders traded paint, challenged each other into corners and kept the crowd on edge with proper close-quarters racing throughout the field.

This time Purificati had far more pressure to deal with, as McMahon pushed him hard from start to finish. In the end, Purificati narrowly held on to complete the double victory, with McMahon right alongside him in second. Barson once again secured third place.
