On our recent road trip from Cape Town to Jo’Burg on the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX, we accidentally…. on purpose…. took a wrong turn and ended up in George in the Western Cape. While we were in the area we popped in at a couple of the local bike shops, what we can tell you is this – for a country town, George has more bike shops than we imagined and most of them bigger and better stocked than a lot of shops in major towns.
We got into town just on 4pm, after about 8 hours exploring some of the most spectacular passes in the Klein Karoo, (that full story coming to Ridefast soon), and our first stop was at Honda Wing George. We’ve been into a lot of Honda Wing dealerships in and around Gauteng that don’t have half the new Honda stock that these guys have on their showroom floor. Rows of XR’s, rows of CRF’s, NC750’s, Transapls, NX’s and a couple of CBR1000’s as well. Walls loaded full of rider gear and helmets, a well stocked parts department with both OEM and aftermarket offerings.
Continuing through the shop, they also have a good selection of Honda Power products, lawnmowers, weed eaters, auxiliary motors for water pumps, generators etc – the whole bang shoot, which makes a lot of sense as this is a big farming area. Step across the threshold, basically a line on the floor, and you are now in George Powersport which is stocked to the rafters with just about everything CF Moto has on offer- ATV’s, Road Bikes and even ADV bikes and the gear and accessories continue along the walls. They are also agents for CanAm, SeaDoo, BRP and just about all of the aftermarket accessory brands out there.
Wander into the workshop and you will find cleanliness and order, a place for everything and everything in its place. Only bikes that are currently being worked on are front and centre with all bikes awaiting parts or authorisation neatly parked in a properly designated area. No clutter, nothing lying around on the floor, nothing to trip over – really a place one should feel happy taking your pride and joy to to be worked by professionals
That is just the shop, the team that keeps this whole show on the road are a really enthusiastic, willing and knowledgeable bunch that seem to have an answer or solution for whatever happens to come through the door. And they all sport a seemingly permanent happy grin, extolling the virtues of the business owners Luigi and Maria Florio.
All in all, Honda Wing George/George Powersport is a really top notch motorcycle dealership by any standard, If you are anywhere in the Southern Cape, pop in at Honda Wing George, it really is e lekker shop with a nice bunch of people able, willing and ready to assist you with all biking needs.
