Lifan Express CG175

Lifan Express CG175 – The New Commercial Bike in Town

We popped into the Lifan head office to collect their latest offering to the commercial market, the Lifan Express CG175. A small bike with a lot of bang for R17,295.00.

It’s quite clear that delivery bikes are absolutely everywhere on our streets. In the ongoing battle for commercial bike dominance, all manufacturers are putting their best foot forward. Lifan’s newest addition to take on the South African streets is the new Express CG175.

The Express runs with a 9.5kW single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled motor that is quite punchy. I reached a top speed of 122km/h on the little bike. I rode it for a week and covered around 164km. The CG175 has enough power to pull away safely at traffic lights and is small and nimble enough to weave through traffic with ease, you can flick it in and out of corners with no hassle.

We had a visitor for a quick test ride.

While doing our usual photos and videos, we had a visitor, a Woolies Dash rider that came to check out the Lifan, very intrigued he even took it for a spin and was more than impressed with the Express CG175. Mentioning how strong the engine is and how comfortable he found the bike to be. His only concern is, will it be available for rent to own.

The Express is fitted with 18” alloy wheels both front and rear, and it is also equipped with drum brakes all round. I must admit that with no load on the back, the suspension is very stiff and makes for a bumpy ride. That, however, is to be expected as the suspension has been set up to carry a 20 – 50kg load on the rear.

I was not gentle with the CG175 and had it at full throttle 90% of the time, and yet I used only about 6 litres of fuel over 164km. If the bike is ridden properly, that number is sure to be significantly better. The Lifan Express CG175 also comes with a 2 year warranty.

The best thing about the Express is the fact that it is backed by KMSA, so there’s no need to worry about parts availability, this means reduced downtime. Low maintenance costs, robust enough for our local roads, light on fuel, and it comes equipped with a carrier rack.

The CG175 is equipped with everything a delivery rider needs, electric start with kickstart, USB-C charging port, speedometer and rev counter, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, a 12.5L fuel tank, easy to understand and operates handlebar controls, bright lights (headlight, tail light and indicators), and a helmet lock.

All in all, a very impressive, robust and economical to own and run commuter bike, that actually looks really good as well, at a very sensible price point with very good after sales nationally.
