The BMW CE 02 EPARKOURER

The BMW CE 02 EPARKOURER

We’ve said it before, electric is increasingly becoming a thing. The other day we popped into the Motorrad East Rand dealership, completed a demo form and took the bike on their floor for a little flip.

Heading out for a bit of fun. It's tiny, so you can take short cuts...

Hop on.

I’m a big guy, around 6ft and despite the miniscule, minimalistic appearance, the Parkour is perfectly comfortable. A narrow but firm seat and high chopper-ish bars for upright seating. The pegs are wide and well placed for longer distances…

Errr… OK hold that thought.

The executive who walks us through the modes warns “Guys, it’s fast, Best you take it easy.”

This to real men who have ridden and raced everything from ‘Busa’s to Blades! Vespa’s to ATV’s… Cmon now!

Peppy drive from the moment you open up...

Select the mode, fast, faster or even faster. Surf stands for chilled-out gliding. Flow moves along nicely and then the highline package includes a third mode: FLASH.

The 15 hp CE 02′s motor has a continuous power rating of 6kW/8 hp and makes 40.5 lb.ft. of torque right from the bottom. The bike has two batteries, each 48 volts rated at 1.96kW, and a claimed top speed of just less than 100KPH. 0-to-50 KPH acceleration happens in just three seconds through the silent belt final drive.

Flash is the mode that you want! Open the throttle… and if you are not careful, the front wheel heads skywards. Instantaneous, exciting power right off the bat.

The more seasoned riders out there might remember the Scooter 101 races that were held in parking lots all around Gauteng?

We reckon that this one would have blitzed them all. It’s pretty darn impressive. Lightning fast off the start liner and she hauls along up to the 100KPH odd top speed, brakes perfectly and handles really well.

We even left a Toyota Hilux in the dust on the short drag race we held around the parking lot.

No seriously, it looks unassuming and all that, but man it’s more fun than a barrel of frogs.

And if you happen to get stuck, it even has a reverse gear… not many other scooters do.

Big guy. Small bike. No problem.

According to the peeps who have ridden this scoot a lot, in full power mode, riding the way you would, you’ll get 50 KM’s odd range per charge, which is cool if you use the bike around the pits at the race track, or live close to work and back – or do what we did, playing silly buggers around a parking lot.

You’ll get a bit further in the slower modes – but who wants to go slowly on a bike that’s this much fun?

Did we mention that this one is a keyless ride with ABS and traction control?

The Highline package includes a gold fork and graphics and lots of goodies like the extra riding mode, heated grips, a smartphone holder and a quick charger that reduces the charging time from 5.2 hours to 3.5 hours.

This one is lurking in among all of the delectable motorcycles at BMW Motorrad East Rand

Go and have a looksee.
