The 2025 KTM 990 Duke R gets upgraded WP Apex suspension, high-quality Brembo brakes, revised electronics, and more horsepower.
The engine remains at 947 cc, the R version parallel twin LC8c motor adds additional torque and power via improved mapping. The 947cc engine found in the standard and R Dukes are identical. The six-speed gearbox is matched to a slip-and-assist clutch that remains unchanged . KTM engineers have, however raised the game and increased the claimed performance figures to 130 horsepower at 9500 rpm with the same 76 ft-lbs of torque at 6750 rpm.
Suspension and chassis upgrades :
The new KTM 990 Duke R gets larger-diameter 48mm damping-adjustable WP Apex forks mounted on by a stronger forged aluminum triple clamp.
The new open cartridge internals are tuned to be sporty.
The tubular-steel frame gets updates to the frame and swingarm to accommodate linkage for the fully adjustable WP Apex shock. The geometry is updated due to slightly longer front suspension travel and the new linkage setup, which has increased the swingarm angle by three degrees. That also raises the whole bike a bit.
The rear shock is a gas assisted WP APEX Monotube shock absorber that has been fitted with a new lighter spring. Newly developed settings offer the rider enhanced responsiveness and comfort. Like the front, the rear shock comes with the simple five-click adjustment settings.
The wheels are lightweight alloy with the front at 120/70-R17 and the rear at 180/55-R17 all dressed in Michelin Power Cup 2 rubber. For braking power up front the Duke 990 R is equipped with twin lightweight 300 mm floating discs and four radially mounted callipers.
Brembo brakes replace the standard 990 Duke’s J.Juan setup. the bigger 320mm rotors are clamped by a set of Brembo Stylema calipers, all connected to a ratio-and-span adjustable Brembo MCS master cylinder.
The TFT display has been changed and is now an 8.8” touchscreen dash. This improves readability and – it’s packed with technology. The ride modes can be customised to suit your riding style. As an accessory option there are three Track and Custom configurations available. The Tech Pack unlocks all optional electronic features like on-the-fly traction control adjustment, five-level wheelie control, launch control, throttle adjustment, an up/down quickshifter, MSR (Motor Slip Regulation), cruise control, a lap timer, and dash-viewable telemetry.
Adding to the look, the 990 R is equipped with the new lightweight LED headlight. The low beam is in the central part of the headlight and turns on automatically when it gets dark. The daytime running lights also reduce their intensity and function as position lights in darker conditions.
KTM has developed a complete new tubular frame with added torsional stiffness thanks to forged parts over sheet metal and an integrated pivot point on the swing arm. To reduce height, an aluminium diecast subframe integrates the airbox and air intakes under the seat. A new lightweight, gravity die-cast swingarm increases stability and flex.
