This little “Plattelandse Dorpie” named Bloemfontein never ceases to amaze me. Us big city dwellers, (Gauteng is basically one big city these days, with almost no significant open spaces between cities and towns anymore), tend to dismiss places like Bloemfontein, (which is one of our capital cities just by the way), as some little dusty country village with a whole lot of nothing happening there. And, that is exactly where we are wrong!
Each time I pass through or visit Bloemfontein I am amazed at the amount of bikes on the roads, not the 60/60 type, but proper big bikes. I am pretty convinced that there are more people riding bikes more regularly than in Mega City Gauteng as a whole, and for the most part the size and the stock holding of the motorcycle dealerships in Bloemfontein do seem to support that theory.
While on my 5 day adventure riding the Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GX from Cape Town to Johannesburg one of the dealers I stopped in at was BMW Motorrad Bloemfontein. Truth be told, I do pop in there as often as I can. Manager Stephen Muller and sales executive Deon de Jager are really lekker guys just to hang out with and shoot the breeze with for a bit. The dealership is also a very nice place to spend a bit of time, always well stocked with a big selection of the latest on offer from BMW as well as a wide variety of really tidy pre-owned bikes at very sensible prices. And all of this together is what it takes to make them one of the top performing BMW Motorrad dealerships in the country.
Next time you are “in the middle of nowhere” pop in for a lekker cup of coffee and a chat, you never know, your next bike might be waiting for you there. Or just give them a call and talk a deal with them, the deal might just be good enough for a lekker ride out that way on a sunny day – sounds like a bargain to us just for that lekker ride. They trade-in, buy in, help with finance and insurance and they deliver nationwide – they’re mos in the middle of everything, so all towns are “net om die draai” from them.
