Riding pantsless for animal welfare
Drop your pants for the pangolins…
The famous Antipant-Antipoaching Run is taking place this Sunday 19 January starting at Magnolia Dell in Pretoria with the gates opening at 7am for the start of the run at 10am.
Simply put – the Antipant-Antipoaching initiative started with the ever-quirky biking icon Skinny Van Schalkwyk who is forever coming up with crazy ideas like “hey, let’s do a ride for charity where everyone takes their pants off.”
If you know Skinny then you will know that such eccentricities are pretty normal for her.And so, many years down the line, the Antipant-Antipoaching Run has grown to around 200 pantless motorcycles riding from Magnolia Dell.
This year, the pantsless brigade is raising money for the cute little pangolins, an animal closely related to the anteater, but with scales, that is also in the unfortunate position of being the most poached animal in the world.
The entry fee for the Antipant-Antipoaching Run is R200 on the morning. For this you get the chance to take part in the run, breakfast and coffee, and the bragging rights of contributing towards the wellbeing of the cute little pangolin.
Once settled at Magnolia Dell, participants remove their trousers and place them in the back up vehicle (this is not compulsory but is widely encouraged). They then join a chilled and somewhat leggy mass ride through Pretoria and out towards Hartbeespoort Dam, stopping at various locations for socialising along the way before eventually descending upon Mulligans Pub and Restaurant near Harties.
There, everyone buys lunch and drinks and socialises and reflects upon a glorious day. Mulligans will host live music and an auction where proceeds all go towards the cute little pangolins.
The Antipant-Antipoaching Run is a fun event hosting a group of some of the most entertaining people in motorcycling all in the name of charity. We’ll see you there!
