There are motorcycle dealerships, and then there are places that make you want to hang around long after you’ve finished looking at the bikes.

The grand opening of Ducati Johannesburg and RACE! In Sandton was definitely the latter.

From the moment we arrived, it was obvious this wasn’t going to be a quite little ribbon-cutting ceremony. People were coming and going throughout the day, bikes were arriving from all directions and, importantly, all bikes were welcome.

The atmosphere was exactly what you’d want from a motorcycle dealership opening, social and buzzing with the sound of people talking bikes. Good music, great food and drinks, plenty of motorcycles and a crowd that clearly didn’t need much encouragement to enjoy themselves.

This isn’t just about the red bikes.

Of course, the Ducati motorcycles are the stars of the show.

And what a collection it is.

Ducati Johannesburg gives riders access to some of the most desirable motorcycles coming out of Borgo Panigale, from the latest performance machinery to the bikes designed to take you considerably further than the nearest coffee shop.

The current Ducati South Africa range covers everything from the Monster and Streetfighter to the Panigale, Multistrada, Diavel, DesertX, Scrambler and Hypermotard families, along with some seriously special limited-production machines.

And this isn’t a dealership where you simply stare at the bikes behind the glass.

Demo bikes were available for test rides, giving potential owners the opportunity to actually experience what Ducati’s latest machinery feels like on the road.

Because let’s be honest, reading horsepower figures is one thing. Hearing a Ducati fire up and riding it is something else entirely.

A workshop worthy of the name.

Behind all those beautiful motorcycles is something arguably even more important, the workshop.

Ducati Johannesburg has been built as a state-of-the-art facility, with a world-class workshop forming an important part of the operation.

That’s something we particularly like to see.

A premium motorcycle dealership shouldn’t simply be about selling you a beautiful motorcycle and waving goodbye. The ownership experience continues long after the bike leaves the showroom, and having a properly equipped workshop and trained support structure on hand is a massive part of that.

Ducati’s official dealer listing confirms Johannesburg as an authorised service location as well as offering motorcycle sales, accessories, apparel and other services.

A Very Special Unveiling

Adding another layer of Italian racing magic to the grand opening was the unveiling of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship Replica Bike, celebrating Marc Márquez’s championship-winning season with Ducati. And this isn’t just a replica sitting in a showroom – each of the bikes has been personally signed by Marc Márquez himself, making them a seriously special piece of MotoGP memorabilia for any Ducati or racing fan. And yes! One has sold already!

Seeing one unveiled at the opening was pretty damn cool. Seeing that signature on it makes it something you’d probably want to lock away… although we’d rather have it sitting in the lounge where everyone can see it!

To spice it up, Marc Marques droped the new dealership a special message.

Then there is RACE!

If Ducati is the Italian side of the equation, RACE! brings an entirely different dimension to the building.

And this is where things get particularly interesting for the South African motorcycle enthusiast.

Walk around the RACE! side and you’ll find pretty much everything a serious rider could want.

Helmets
Race suits
Gloves
Boots
Motorcycle accessories
Performance equipment

And plenty of other bits and pieces that have the potential to turn a quick visit into a considerably more entertaining afternoon!

RACE! also has new and used motorcycles, including some genuinely special and unusual machines. So even if you’re not walking in specifically looking for a Ducati, there’s a good chance something else will catch your eye.

The business has a long history in the South African motorcycle scene, and its new Sandton facility brings that experience together with Ducati’s latest Johannesburg operation.

More than a dealership.

The grand opening attracted a constant stream of riders and enthusiasts throughout the day, and the fact that every type of motorcycle was welcomed said a lot about the attitude behind the event.

You didn’t have to arrive on a Ducati.

You didn’t have to be there to buy a bike.

You didn’t even have to be a Ducati owner.

If you like motorcycles, you were welcome.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Ducati Johannesburg is now officially part of the Sandton motorcycle landscape, bringing the Ducati brand together with the RACE! operation under one impressive roof.

With Ducati South Africa fully behind the new facility, international Ducati representation present for the opening, demo bikes available to ride, a serious workshop, a huge range of motorcycle gear and accessories, new and used motorcycles and enough Italian exotica to keep even the most hardened bike nut interested, this is clearly intended to be much more than another dealership.
