1000 Bike Show

The 2024 1000 bike Show

The 1000 Bike Show has a long history, dating back to the first concours d’elegance organised by the CMC in Springs in 1970. Best in show was the 1969 Triumph Bonneville of Neville Nicolou. The show has grown from strength to strength and this year, it found a new home. The show, organised by the Classic Motorcycle Club, was previously held at Germiston High School and in recent years at Jeppe Quondam. Organisers say the move allows it to expand displays while ensuring exhibits remain under cover, safe from the elements.

This is the first time that the 1000 bike show has been hosted at a shopping mall, previously it’s always been on a big sports field, under tents and things, so this one was a change. And by all accounts, especially from the people putting up the displays, it is a good move.

Even military bikes have a spot.

Greenstone Malls parking lot played host to the exhibitors, loads of space, convenient parking and lots and lots of very cool motorcycles to ogle made for a seriously cool day out.

120 bucks got you in, great vibe, live music, reasonably priced eats – the general consensus is that it was a great success.

Throngs of people popped through to join festivities, with hassle free parking and a great vibe…

It was a great display of vintage and classic bikes, rounded off with good food and drinks and of course the opportunity for a good chinwag with friends and peeps who share the passion…

Meet Dave Holmes. In April, at 82 years young, he undertook a solo, unsupported trip around South Africa. His bike is a 71 year old London built Matchless G80 named Murgatroyd. He completed the 5200KM trip, from JHB to JHB relying on kindness and hospitality from the SA people. On the 12th of May, after 32 days on the road, he arrived back home. It was all done to raise funds for the SPCA and the fight against dog fighting. Age is but a number!

This from Graeme Reid, the Classic Motorcycle Clubs man who co-ordinates it all.

The CMC had 50 more bikes exhibited on the show compared to last year.

The introduction of the 4 new categories added a new dimension.

Attendance figures were close to ’23 figures.

Visitor comment was largely positive and supportive of the new venue, most saying that they were surprised as it was far better than expected and they will return.

We will be going back next year, Greenstone SC permitting.

Our Thanks for the continued support of the Biking community.

The pics tell the story… it’s always a great day out!

See you next year!

The Classic Motorcycle Club is very active. If you missed this, why not catch them at The Great Train Race later this month… Click here for details.
